HYGIENIST

A dental hygienist treatment includes a thorough and professional cleaning of gums and teeth.

Dental hygiene forms a vital part of preventative ethos at Coulsdon Dental Clinic– and it’s not merely about brushing your teeth twice a day. A Dental Hygienist helps to prevent not only tooth decay, but also identifies signs of early gum disease and cures bad breath (halitosis). We firmly believe that good dental hygiene is the stepping stone for overall health and well-being.

An appointment with our Dental Hygienist is 30 minutes long and includes:

  • Removal of plaque or calculus that has hardened over time using ultrasonic scalers
  • Bad breath treatment
  • Oral cancer screening, including early detection of tooth decay and identifying signs of gum disease
  • Removal of any surface staining caused by smoking or consuming tea and coffee
  • A thorough cleaning of gums to ensure the gums stay healthy and avoid tooth loss
  • Oral Health instructions that are bespoke to you and your eating habits

Why should i see a Dental Hygienist?

We operate direct access so that means you can book a dental hygienist appointment without being referred by a dentist. As well as 30 mins appointment, we are pleased to offer detailed treatments namely 60 min deep treatment and stain removal with airflow. If your current dental practice does not offer a Dental Hygienist, then you can still visit our practice just for hygienist visits. Our hygienists are fully trained and registered with the General Dental Council.

Along with a scale & polish, a hygienist provides:

Smoke cessation advice

are conducted to keep gum disease at bay

Bespoke advice

based on your dietary habits

FAQ

There are areas in your mouth that can be difficult to reach. As the plaque or calculus hardens over time, it becomes impossible to remove through brush & floss. If left un-removed, it can lead to gum disease, and in extreme cases, it may lead to tooth loss. Our hygienists work with ultrasonic scalers and are trained to remove the hardened plaque or calculus, leaving you with fresh breath.

Occasionally your gums or teeth might be sensitive. Still, we will take things slowly and can always use numbing gel or local anaesthetic to make you as comfortable as possible.

At Coulsdon Dental Clinic, Dental Hygienist treatment is ÂŁ75 for a 30-minute session. We ask for a ÂŁ30 deposit when you make an appointment, and the remainder ÂŁ35 becomes payable after the treatment.

Little guilty pleasures like tea, coffee or red wine that we all indulge in, regrettably stain our teeth. When repeatedly done over weeks and months, these stains become stubborn and nearly impossible to remove with routine brushing. Our Hygienists are trained and have special tools to remove surface staining, however for deep and stubborn staining, we recommend laser teeth whitening.
